A minimalist volume gains depth and character through contrasting materials and the natural aging of wood. Located near the Douro River, the project began with understanding the family who would inhabit it , their rhythm, their need for simplicity, and the desire to appear strong and grounded from the outside, almost like a quiet fortress. This emotional and personal reading shaped the architectural gesture from the very beginning.
For A43, architecture is inseparable from the human experience, and this house reflects that belief. Behind its solid exterior, the interior unfolds with warmth, clarity and intention, creating a space that feels deeply personal. In the end, the goal is simple yet profound: to design a home that makes its inhabitants feel, effortlessly and honestly, “I love this space.”
